چکیده
Forty hearing-impaired participants were fitted with the ReSound ED2 two-channel two-memory wide dynamic range compression hearing aid. After participants had worn the ED2 for six months, the final settings for crossover frequency (CF) and compression ratio (CR) for each channel were documented. There were statistically significant correlations between the slope of hearing loss and (he programmed CF and CR. It was found that as slope increased, the CF increased and the low frequency CR decreased. No participant selected a CF for Memory 2 which was lower than the CF for Memory I. It is recommended that the interactions between the channels of multichannel instruments and the settings of CF and CR not he overlooked.

A multichannel compression strategy for a digital hearing aid
Multi-channel compression schemes are a practical method of mapping the wide dynamic range of speech signals into the reduced dynamic range of hearing impaired listeners. These systems address two of the shortcomings of single-channel compression systems: (1) the reduction of gain as a result of narrow-band non-speech stimuli and (2) the reduction of gain that often occurs when high-frequency s...
متن کاملPreferred low- and high-frequency compression ratios among hearing aid users with moderately severe to profound hearing loss.
This study aimed to determine the low- and high-frequency compression ratios of a fast-acting device that were preferred by people with moderately severe to profound hearing loss. Three compression ratios (1:1, 1.8:1, and 3:1) were combined in the low and high frequencies to produce nine schemes that were evaluated pair-wise for three weeks in the field using an adaptive procedure. The evaluati...
متن کاملSpeech discrimination with an 8-channel compression hearing aid and conventional aids in background of speech-band noise.
The design for a multichannel compression hearing aid was developed from previous experimental and theoretical work in our laboratory concerning pitch perception in normal-hearing subjects. The new hearing aid, implemented with off-line digital signal processing, was tested on twenty subjects with sensorineural hearing loss using speech sounds in a background of speech-spectrum noise. Five sign...
متن کاملAcoustic analysis of speech through a hearing aid: consonant-vowel ratio effects with two-channel compression amplification.
In this study, the consonant-vowel ratio (CVR) changes associated with varying the compression ratio and crossover frequency of two-channel syllabic compression amplification were examined. Consonant-vowel syllables were recorded at 60 and 75 dB SPL input levels to the hearing aid under 13 different amplification conditions: 12 compression conditions and a condition that used linear amplificati...
متن کاملA comparison of the aided performance and benefit provided by a linear and a two-channel wide dynamic range compression hearing aid.
The aided performance and benefit achieved with linear and two-channel wide dynamic range compression (WDRC) in-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids were established in 55 individuals. Study participants had been wearing either linear or adaptive-frequency-response (Bass Increase at Low Levels, BILL) ITC hearing aids for approximately one year before participation in this study. Outcome measures includ...
